Reviews: A Season For Fishin’ (A Fish Fry Tradition) by Pamela Courtney, Illustrator Toni D. Chambers

This charming story of kinfolk and tradition is written with beautiful lyricism, rhythm and pacing. I kept wanting to sing the words as I read them. The illustrations are full of a sense of community and love. The story is rooted in the Natchitoches tribal lands in Louisiana, where the author grew up.

“Cane River calls.
Sister Wind brushes curtains against my cheek.
But I’m already awake.
Ol’ Sun peeks, then winks at me.
I know why.
Today is Fish Fry Friday.”
